Don’t be like Fred

He does not have a lot of spare time as he works long hours in his Senior Management role. His Wife has been telling him for a while that he’s putting on weight, but Fred hasn’t listened, he’s always taken his health and fitness for granted, has never done any exercise he enjoys the food he has always eaten as he says ”I like my food and why not” why not indeed! Exercise For the over 50’s

If you’re over thinking your health and fitness but not doing much about it, this great Article by Mark Sisson, shows that you can gain, or maintain, your fitness at any age, make it enjoyable and fun. At least once a week on any local news channel anywhere in the country there is a colour piece on an octogenarian who just completed a marathon, or a 98 year old man who went skydiving, or a team of rugby players all over the age of 60. Fitness isn’t exclusive to the young. Admittedly, age takes a toll on the joints and […] Read more »

Stand Up for Health and Fitness

Your health and fitness should be the first consideration of the day. I’ve just been for a 5 mile hill-walk, which is something I usually do at weekends, but I’ve now brought a lot more resistance walking into my everyday fitness routine.  So if it’s not cycling first thing, it’s walking, to get my day underway. After a couple of hours exercise I have an appetite like a horse, something which I’ve had to learn to curb.  But I’ll talk about diet another time. I’m now standing in front of my desk ready to start work.  The research I have […] Read more »

Weight Gain and Diet You’ve Been Lied To.

If you’re still struggling with weight gain and your diet is still the same, you need to change your thinking before anything else.  This will make the whole process more achievable because it’s really not your fault.  In the last 50 years we have all been lied to on a major scale when it comes to Nutrition and the problems we face around weight gain. We have all succumbed to the massive marketing machine that is our local Supermarket.  Bright shiny packaging and discounted offers have put us in to a rut when it comes to food and nutrition.  The […] Read more »

Attitude to Fitness keeps you Young at Heart

Your attitude to fitness keeps you young at heart.  There is no doubt about that. We all want to keep our health and fitness to do the things we’ve always done.  Maybe even some of the fun things, that we’ve wanted to do but just haven’t had the time. I’m 56 at the end of this week and as clichéd as it sounds I do believe that age is just a number. In this day and age fifty is the new Thirty, or whatever number you want it to be.  When I’m free-wheeling down steep, twisty lanes on my morning […] Read more »

Staying Healthy – What’s Your Number?

Staying healthy in a study led by Dr Sandra Mandic, of the University of Otego in Dunedin, New Zealand, of nearly 4,400 healthy US adults, found that the 20% with the lowest physical fitness levels were twice as likely to die over the next nine years as the 20% with the next lowest fitness levels. In other words, if you can get yourself out of the least fit 20% of the population, you can double your survival chances.   http://www.menshealthforum.org.uk/walking/19595-unfit-start-here#sthash.MSjGF22k.dpuf Now I don’t know about you, but I like percentages, you always know where you are at a glance.  So where […] Read more »

Dealing With Stress Simply Breathe Through It

Another day full of stress? No time to catch a breath how many times have we heard that or said it ourselves?   We all know we need to breathe to live.  Just think about it a minute. Breathing is a reflex action done by our body to provide the flow of oxygen around the body to the vital organs. Here’s a few interesting facts: Humans breathe between 12 and 20 times per minute, with children breathing faster than adults. Babies may breathe as much as 40 times per minute. Adults normally breathe about 500-700ml of air at a time. An […] Read more »

The 5:2 Diet: Can It Help You Lose Weight And Live Longer?

Dr Michael Mosley writes…Several months ago I set myself an ambitious goal: to find a way to live longer, stay younger and lose weight. I also wanted to go on enjoying the foods I normally eat and make as few changes to my lifestyle as possible. After talking to several scientific experts, I have spent the past few months trying a controversial diet that challenges conventional views about how and when we should eat. It is called intermittent fasting – reducing your food intake on alternate days. Although most of the great religions advocate fasting (devout Muslims finish fasting for Ramadan […] Read more »
