So I was aware but put it on the “back-burner” you might say. Not having found any weight training exercises that interested me.

I had a look on Youtube and saw people using them. I could see the power of these big “tea kettle” shaped things, and as heavy as a classic dumbbell. The fun and the results people were achieving really lit my fire.

Kettlebells are the most challenging and versatile piece of exercise equipment I had ever come across. So I decided this would be the year that I was going to do some weight training.

The only weight training I had done previously, was to have a go on the weight training machines, in the local Gym when they were doing one of those free day promotional Gym Passes they give out now and again. I didn’t enjoy it at all!

It wasn’t long before I went to investigate this awesome piece of equipment myself; I just knew I was going to enjoy Kettlebells as soon as I picked one up. And then my Sister, who had heard all about my interest in Kettlebells, and having told everyone, I was going to “give it a go” she did some research herself and bought me an 8kg Kettlebell for a Christmas Present a year ago. This is a good weight for a guy in his 50’s to start with. You can start heavier depending on your level of fitness. Though it’s more important to learn the exercises and carry them out correctly and safely. And then increase the weight.

I did a bit more research and started Squatting, Racking, Cleaning, Pressing and Swinging! Just a few of the terms used to describe the “reps” you work through.

Adding Kettlebells has finally brought everything into balance for me. Keeping fit has always been an important part of my life. And like every guy whether you’ve kept fit or not up to now, as we get older, we all struggle with keeping the weight gain at bay.
