Exercise For the over 50’s

If you’re over thinking your health and fitness but not doing much about it, this great Article by Mark Sisson, shows that you can gain, or maintain, your fitness at any age, make it enjoyable and fun. At least once a week on any local news channel anywhere in the country there is a colour piece on an octogenarian who just completed a marathon, or a 98 year old man who went skydiving, or a team of rugby players all over the age of 60. Fitness isn’t exclusive to the young. Admittedly, age takes a toll on the joints and […] Read more »

Stand Up for Health and Fitness

Your health and fitness should be the first consideration of the day. I’ve just been for a 5 mile hill-walk, which is something I usually do at weekends, but I’ve now brought a lot more resistance walking into my everyday fitness routine.  So if it’s not cycling first thing, it’s walking, to get my day underway. After a couple of hours exercise I have an appetite like a horse, something which I’ve had to learn to curb.  But I’ll talk about diet another time. I’m now standing in front of my desk ready to start work.  The research I have […] Read more »

Weight Gain and Diet You’ve Been Lied To.

If you’re still struggling with weight gain and your diet is still the same, you need to change your thinking before anything else.  This will make the whole process more achievable because it’s really not your fault.  In the last 50 years we have all been lied to on a major scale when it comes to Nutrition and the problems we face around weight gain. We have all succumbed to the massive marketing machine that is our local Supermarket.  Bright shiny packaging and discounted offers have put us in to a rut when it comes to food and nutrition.  The […] Read more »

Staying Healthy – What’s Your Number?

Staying healthy in a study led by Dr Sandra Mandic, of the University of Otego in Dunedin, New Zealand, of nearly 4,400 healthy US adults, found that the 20% with the lowest physical fitness levels were twice as likely to die over the next nine years as the 20% with the next lowest fitness levels. In other words, if you can get yourself out of the least fit 20% of the population, you can double your survival chances.   http://www.menshealthforum.org.uk/walking/19595-unfit-start-here#sthash.MSjGF22k.dpuf Now I don’t know about you, but I like percentages, you always know where you are at a glance.  So where […] Read more »

Relaxation – Take Time Out

It’s a busy time of year for everyone and our aim is usually to get everything done, so we can relax with our family and friends, and enjoy the holidays. For a lot of people relaxing is the hard part, they can never switch off completely. The reason is they’ve forgotten how to make time for themselves, and this follows through in every aspect of their life including their health and fitness. Every day it’s as if we’re on a wheel, we just keep going. So that when we have a chance to get off, and have some time out, we don’t […] Read more »

Lifestyle Change – The Tough List

Lifestyle?  Sometimes in life we have to make some choices which are not easy.  I call it the “Tough List”  Hopefully you are happy with the life you have made, now that you’re in your fifties.  And if not you can do something about it.  Lifestyle is a huge area to cover in a Blog Post and being 55 myself I could probably write about it for a week, and would still not cover all the elements. I would guess though as you’ve come to this website it’s more about your health and fitness, how you are feeling, looking, energy […] Read more »

Drinking Water

Drinking water?  I have just read that there’s a new Café just opened in New York selling filtered tap water. Yeah, that’s the only thing it sells, a real watering hole.  It’s called “Molecules”.  You can also add vitamins and supplements to the water they sell, to create a water cocktail – way to go I say. We could do with a chain of them. For our fitness over fifty we should be drinking water.  Guys in our fifties I think still find it a bit strange, the concept of buying water from a shop.  I know I did, even […] Read more »

Change Your Mind About Health And Fitness

I’m going to try and change your mind about your health and fitness, and the reasons you find it hard.  When it comes to exercise you don’t like it when you do it, or worse still, you don’t do it at all, because of the way you think about it. It’s not enjoyable. You don’t find it easy. It’s a chore. And you probably think, what’s the point?  Just going for a walk makes you feel good and is great exercise, so it’s a great place to start.  But if you have looked on it as a chore in the […] Read more »
