I’m going to try and change your mind about your health and fitness, and the reasons you find it hard. When it comes to exercise you don’t like it when you do it, or worse still, you don’t do it at all, because of the way you think about it.
It’s not enjoyable.
You don’t find it easy.
It’s a chore.
And you probably think, what’s the point? Just going for a walk makes you feel good and is great exercise, so it’s a great place to start. But if you have looked on it as a chore in the past, just something you need to do to keep fit, this will do you no good mentally and the physical results will be poor and unsustainable. You will use every excuse possible not to exercise, justifying it in your mind every time, you’ll probably give up.
Well the great thing is if you have followed me this far and have taken action on what you’ve discovered in my last two posts, and you are serious, you are well on the way to changing this.
Remember you are not by yourself; there is lots of support here. You are one of the few who are doing something about it and you should be congratulated for that.
None of us want ill health so why wait for it to arrive, because from the people I’ve known, and the research I’ve done, it will in some guise. A healthy body will protect you from disease and illness that is a fact. The latest worldwide statistics show that 1 in 10 people die literally from inactivity in their lives.
We’ve had a look at Weight Gain, Food and your relationship with it. We know what the problem is with the lack of Exercise, so now let’s flip it about. To be active both in your work life and your leisure time you need to have a more relaxed approach.
I know it took me some time literally to get my head around this one. You’ve heard the phrase “the right frame of mind”, well this is what you need, the experts call it re-framing. To achieve your goals in all areas of your life and certainly when it comes to your health and fitness. It’s what they do in Life Coaching Groups and 1 to 1’s. This is powerful when you open your mind to it.
Right, guys if you’re thinking this all sounds a bit “woo woo”, you need to stop there. You’re not getting it. Think openly and positively and engage this technique. What you’ve done before hasn’t worked. So why not be open to something new.
People pay a lot of money to learn this. The time is spent on getting rid of the “old thinking”, it’s simple to do if you just let go of the past and the negativity around your health and fitness.
It’s all about wanting to change, believing you can do it, knowing where you are now, and seeing where you want to be clearly in your mind. If you do this, I know you will achieve the results you want, once you throw away the old approach you can relax. There are a lot of techniques for relaxing. You can learn about some of them here.
When you’re relaxed you have more clarity with everything you do, when you work, you work better. When you rest and sleep, you sleep properly. Sleep is a very important part of your health and fitness.
The amount of sleep varies from person to person. In your 50’s you will know how much sleep that is for you, whether it be 5 hours or 8 hours. Sound sleep is what you need to have every night.
If you have problems sleeping it’s probably because you’re never totally relaxed. The new re-framing for your health and fitness should help enormously with this.
Schedule your “sleeptime”, do things that increase your relaxed state, and make sure your sleeping environment is exactly as you want it.
My own experience has shown that all of this requires open-minded thinking and discipline, but I have found that the rewards are worth it, on all levels. Remember mindset, all this can be achieved if you’re relaxed, sleep well. You will have the energy both mentally and physically to take on your day in a way that is going to make you feel good.
You will have changed your mind about health and fitness, and will be achieving your fitness goals, you will be healthier, and you will feel good about yourself.
